Job: Assistant Editor, Jewish Community Voice of Southern New Jersey

The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey (JFSNJ) seeks a creative and eager Assistant Editor of the Jewish Community Voice to join our dynamic and growing team. As Assistant Editor, you will be tasked with guiding our departments and agencies towards our organization’s current goals and working towards the vision we dream to achieve for our community’s publications.

Applicants should have 3 years of professional experience in journalism and a BA in journalism, English, communications, or a related field.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Display interpersonal skills to collaborate with editor, advertising and production teams, Jewish Federation volunteer leaders, and community members.
  2. Meticulous attention to detail in editing, grammar, punctuation, and factual accuracy, as well as ability to identify critical information.
  3. Exceptionally strong writing skills and proficiency in AP style.
  4. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes in deadlines or priorities.
  5. Strong organizational skills to manage deadlines, prioritize tasks, and coordinate with other writers and the editor.
  6. Demonstrates an understanding of ethical journalism practices.
  7. Awareness of current local and international trends, particularly regarding Israel.
  8. Cover community events as assigned by the editor and prepare feature stories as requested by the editor. Meet all required deadlines.
  9. Edit press releases and wire service stories.
  10. Be responsible for obtaining and editing copy for Voice supplements.
  11. Be responsible for monitoring and obtaining content for Voice website, and social media platforms. Work with JFed marketing social media team to cultivate content for social media.
  12. Work with the Federation Marketing Dept. to prepare Voice promotional materials, including signs, banners, ads, and other items.
  13. Attend Voice and Federation meetings and programs as requested by the editor.
  14. Edit and write articles and fill in for the editor when he is at conferences or on vacation.
  15. Assist the editor as required in order to complete Voice tasks.
  16. Work with Jewish Federation Chief Marketing Officer and various leadership on stories and projects, as necessary.

As an exempt, full-time professional, the Voice Assistant Editor will be required to work as needed, including attending meetings and covering events during the evening and on weekends.
