Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and New York Times Kabul Bureau Chief Rod Nordland will discuss his new book, The Lovers: Afghanistan’s Romeo and Juliet from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 as part of the Montclair Public Library’s Open Books, Open Mind series. Norland’s book tells the story of Zakia and Ali, two neighbors from rival Afghan tribes who defied civil and Islamic law, and their families, by daring to get married. As a result, they had to flee the threat of honor killing.
