The New Jersey Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists will present another in its series of discussions of topics vital to the profession on Saturday, May 10, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the main branch of the Montclair Public Library, 50 South Fullerton Avenue.
“Inside the Evolving World of Local Journalism” will bring together practitioners of both traditional and new media.
- Mark Porter has been editor of the award-winning and successful Montclair Times for 16 years. The Times defies the current stereotypes of declining traditional journalism.
- Michael Shapiro started The Alternative Press as an online local in Union County and is now issuing franchises throughout the state.
- Audrey Blumburg has recently signed a franchise with The Alternative Press. She was formerly a co-editor with Patch.
- Moderating the panel will be Jane Primerano, an independent journalist with experience with traditional weeklies and dailies and with TAP and Patch.
The panel will address the issues facing publications covering local news, how the public’s expectations have (or have not) changed, and how local new organizations are struggling to meet those expectations. Time will be allotted for questions from the audience.
The room can accommodate 60 people comfortably. Please email jprim7@netscape.net to RSVP.
