We have some very good news! Starting on April 5th, all members of the press will be eligible for COVID vaccinations in New Jersey. SPJ has been petitioning governors in many states and this morning Governor Murphy made the official announcement.
We spoke with Governor Murphy’s office after the announcement. You will NOT need to show your NJ Press ID Card to get a vaccination. It will be on the honor system. If you fill out a questionnaire, online or in person, there is often a checkbox indicating that you work in “communications.” The procedures vary in different counties, but the essential thing is that all journalists qualify for a vaccine, stating on April 5th.
We’d give you a state weblink, but it is not posted yet. Updated information should be on official NJ websites soon.
We thank Governor Murphy for recognizing the reality that journalists are essential workers and that many of us have been at great risk since the pandemic began. As he stated this morning: “Throughout the pandemic, members of the press have been on the frontlines delivering critical info to the public. They will be among those eligible for vaccinations on April 5.”
Please be well…
